My Projects
Written Work and Analysis
Newsletters
For my job with National Agricultural Biosecurity Center at Kansas State University, I am tasked with designing and authoring a monthly newsletter. 'AgriGate' is designed to inform midwestern farmers and ranchers about current and upcoming threats to agriculture. I cover topics from crop disease to issues of national and global security, all pertaining to agriculture.

I designed this newsletter from the ground up. When I started in April of 2024, I had very little to go off of and this project became my 'brain child.' With every new addition, the newsletter improves. I have taken the chance to learn how to use Canva to put together 'AgriGate' and am improving everyday.

Along with the design elements, I am responsible for all of the research and writing for each addition. I have included some of the most recent additions as examples. Please note that the name 'AgriGate' was recently decided on, so past editions will not have the name of the newsletter.
Policy Briefs
Through my course work in Agricultural Economics, I have been able to practice writing policy briefs. I have enjoyed this more analytical (rather than journalistic) writing style along with being able to dive deeper into policies affecting farmers and ranchers.

This policy brief is about parity pricing. I was tasked with writing this piece as if I was 'informing a Senator about parity prices, how they are used, how they are calculated, etc.'

The next brief that I am working on is about Section 45Z Clean Fuel Production Credit and will follow the same general instructions and format as the first one.
Social Media
My twin sister and I (shoutout Jenna) manage the social media pages for the family cattle business, Lazy F Livestock. The Lazy F brand has been in the family for multiple generations and we are the first to bring it to social media.

With the creation of reels and other posts, we have garnered a following of over 500. The post with the highest engagement received over 2,000 views and 800 likes. Admittedly, I have not posted as regularly as I would like, but I have plans to make a posting schedule and use our social media pages (Instagram and Facebook) as a better marketing tool in the future.

Using Social Media to Advertise Cattle
Every fall my family and I typically sell one to two heifer calves at the Annual Red Angus Sale during the NILE in Billings, MT and the Bet on Red sale during the Western National Red Angus Show in Reno, NV.
This year we sold one heifer in Reno and I was in charge of generating social media posts to help advertise the sale and our heifer.

I created the caption for this post, but I did not do the videography or photography. Creating captions on social media posts for sale cattle (or writing the foot notes for a catalog) are very fun for me, and I always enjoy the process!

For this post, I took the video and wrote the caption. This was posted the night before the sale, so I was also responsible for responding to comments and messages regarding the heifer and the sale.
Sharing My Story
Beef It's What's For Dinner created a social media campaign where beef producers could share their story of why they are in, and continue to be in the beef industry under the hashtag #mycattlecalling. I took this chance to share my 'why' of being in the cattle industry.

I have a passion for sharing my story about my involvement in the beef industry. When my family ranch was sold in 2017, it affected my outlook on my future and I doubted my place in the cattle industry. I had a newfound conviction to continue in the industry, but didn't know how. I find great enjoyment in life through not only sharing my 'why' of being involved in the cattle industry, but also listening to others do the same.
